About
Thanks for visiting the Active Directory Expert.
My Background
My name is Scott Horsfield, and I’ve worked with Active Directory over the past 7 years. Prior to Active Directory I worked with various other directory services, such as Banyan Vines StreetTalk and NDS. I am a former United States Marine and am originally from Portland OR. though I currently live in Atlanta GA. In addition to Active Directory I’ve spent a great deal of time working with Microsoft Exchange, Systems Management Server, IIS, ISA, and have experience with the majority of Microsoft’s offerings. I’ve also spent some time as web developer and programmer working with VBScript, VB.NET, Java, Pascal, C++ and ASP. I am an MCSE/MCSA and am currently working towards various other certifications, especially the new Exchange 2007 and Windows 2008 certification paths.
My Experience
As a Senior Systems Engineer I work daily to resolve Active Directory and Exchange issues and plan new environments and upgrades. I’ve completed several migrations and am currently planning a large migration for my current employer. I’ve spent the majority of my career working for the Department of Defense and have recently switched to the private sector. As my career has progressed I’ve found myself moving towards specializing in Active Directory and Exchange. Because this is where my interest now lies, I hope to use this site as a tool to help my progress.
About This Site
I’ve created this site to help myself, and others, become experts at Active Directory administration, design, and planning. I hope to share with you the resources, tools, and methods I’ve discovered and designed over the years, and I look forward to learning about how you solve common Active Directory problems. While this site will primarily focus on Active Directory, I will frequently talk about the areas that directly affect, or are affected by Active Directory such as DNS, Exchange, DHCP, WINS, Network Topology, Management Solutions and 3rd party utilities and applications.
